'Grutte Pier' character designs

Some character designs I did for a game by Triangle Studios about the 16th century Frisian rebel pirate leader Pier Gerlofs Donia a.k.a 'Grutte Pier' (big Pier, because of his supposedly legendary size en strenght, wielding a massive 7 ft two-handed sword). Grutte Pier is considered a folk hero in the provence of Friesland, which today is part of the Netherlands. He lead a guerilla war against the house of Habsburg as revenge for burning down his village and murdering his family.
Pier lead an armed band of pirates known as the Arumer Black Hope. They were mainly active against the Hollanders and Burgundians at sea. He managed to capture many English and Dutch ships, mainly on the Zuider Zee (Southern Sea, today the Ijselmeer, artificially made into a closed off inland bay in the central Netherlands).

The game was later released as 'Cross of the Dutchman'.
